A secondary School in Liverpool is one of a few Schools that have agreed for the Army too go into the building tomorrow and do Corona Virus tests on the children. .
The Children are aged from 11-19 years of age
The Education Department have agreed that Parental consent will not be required. but a letter sent out too Parents on Friday 6th November 2020 stated that if Parents did not agree to their children being tested had to contact the school on Monday morning saying that they would not agree to their children being tested.
The Emails were sent out in a rush and busy parents might not have adequate time to check their emails over the weekend .
Leading to children being tested without parental consent.
The education Department stated in so many words .that because of the severity of the corona virus pandemic and the emergency of the situation They could test the children without consent.
Other attributes to the email were that if a child was to be found Covid 19 positive the children will be placed in a quarantined place possibly within the school.
The email has not clarified what will happen to the children when they have been placed in quarantine.
Will the parents be called to ask them to pick the child up from school and put them into isolation for 14 days in their own home ?
Or will they be taken again without Parental consent to a medical facility again without parental consent.
Children of the age of 13 or over are deemed to be Gillick competent and can refuse and have rights of making their own decisions.
If a tall 18 year old Boy states he does not agree to being tested will they be restrained and the test forced on them? .
Hopefully not .the voice of the child should deem for them to be left alone.
We will just have to wait and see .
I will have to research the policy and forward a Freedom of Information Request off to the School LA education department.
I would be asking questions like I would like to see your risk assessment before making a decision about any of my children if they were that age.
With regards to the schools email they have left it to late for the parents to make a decision .
And if they do not get their email back to the school tomorrow their child faces being tested without parental consent and will the school agree to a child refusing the test under the clause of Gillick and the voice of the child.
