I wod advise all Parents to record all Child Protection Case Conferences.
They are Public Servants and there is nothing in law to state that you cant.
I would also advise Parents to request a copy of all case conference minutes put a letter in writing to the senior Social Worker send via recorded delivery mail and keep a photocopy of your letter.
If they do not comply use LA Complaints Procedure send a letter to the LA Complaints team and CC a copy of your letter to the Director of Childrens Services in your area.
Get all your Social Services files including minutes of all Child Protection Case Conferences LAC Reviews and Children in need reviews under the GDPR Policy of 28.5.2018 the LA have 30 working days to comply.
The old Data access fee of £10 is now defunct the LA are not allowed to charge for this Service now.
If they do not comply get the Information commissioner to investigate the LA breach of compliance time.
You will have to forward a copy of your passport or driving licence and a recent utility no older than 12 weeks old this is for ID purposes .always keep a copy of your data protection request .also in your request ask for copies of the Social Workers Initial assessment report and core assessment report
Under the right to be forgotten clause of the GDPR Policy of 28.5.2018 you are allowed to ask for all discrepancies to be deleted.
Always take an Advocate or Friend with you to the case conference to take notes.best to tell the Social Worker that you will be taking somebody to the meeting with you ..
For Children over the age of 13 or over the LA have a mandatory obligation to notify that Child in writing about date and time of Case Conference encourage them to be there with an Advocate.
The LA have a duty notify all Parents in writing about date and time of Case Conference at least no later than 2 working days priorto to the meeting the same goes with Gillick Children of 13 years or over.
I recently went as an Advocate for the Parents into a Child protection case conference and a Boy of 13 was not there.
I asked the Social why she had not invited the Child the Social Worker stated she could not really explain to me why.
But at the next meeting the Boy was there with an Advocate from Barnardos.
SAMPLE DATA PROTECTION letter that you could email to your Social Worker.
